Leeds-born Erling Haaland scored the opener as Manchester City beat Galatasaray in the Champions League, then appeared to mark it with a Leeds salute.
According to yorkshireevenpost.co.uk, footage of the celebration was posted on social media, with many supporters praising the perceived gesture.
The striker had been on the bench for last weekend’s Premier League match at home to Wolves, but returned to the starting line-up for Wednesday’s tie at home to Galatasaray.
After 10 minutes he put City in front with a chipped finish.
Haaland was born in Leeds and has spoken of his admiration for the club his father Alf-Inge represented for nearly three years.
The moment arrived nearly 26 years on from the night Leeds fans Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight were fatally stabbed in Istanbul, on the eve of the UEFA Cup semi-final first leg in April 2000.
