Evangelos Marinakis ‘has sued’ Crystal Palace for defamation | OneFootball

Evangelos Marinakis has launched High Court defamation proceedings against Crystal Palace. According to BBC Sport, the Nottingham Forest owner filed the claim on Monday.

The case traces back to August 2025’s 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park, when Palace fans displayed a banner that sarcastically said Mr Marinakis was not involved in blackmail, match-fixing, drug trafficking or corruption. It also depicted him pointing a gun at Morgan Gibbs-White.

The display followed the collapse of the Forest captain’s proposed move to Tottenham, who had looked to trigger a £60 million release clause. The banner has not been explicitly cited as the reason for the lawsuit.

The Football Association opened disciplinary proceedings against Palace in November last year over supporter misconduct.

Separately, Nottingham Forest took Crystal Palace’s Europa League qualifying spot last season due to non-compliance with UEFA multi-club ownership rules. Olympique Lyonnais, also owned by John Textor’s Eagle group, qualified, which moved the London club into the Europa Conference League. Relations between the clubs are unlikely to ease.
