Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has launched High Court action against Crystal Palace over a controversial banner displayed at Selhurst Park. The banner depicted Marinakis holding a gun to Morgan Gibbs-White's head.

According to Nottingham Post, his lawyers filed a defamation claim on Monday, with CPFC Limited named as one of two defendants. The incident occurred during the Premier League meeting between the clubs on 24 August last year.

The display also carried a message stating that Mr Marinakis was not involved in blackmail, match-fixing, drug trafficking or corruption.

Marinakis has denied wrongdoing in relation to such allegations. In November, the Football Association charged Palace over the episode, alleging the club failed to ensure supporters did not behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, insulting or provocative manner during the fixture.

Gibbs-White had appeared close to joining Tottenham last summer before agreeing a new Forest contract after talks with Marinakis. Fewer than two weeks before the 24 August game, Forest had taken Palace's place in the Europa League, with Palace moved to the Conference League for breaching UEFA's multi-club ownership rules.
