Everton could swoop for West Ham United midfielder James Ward-Prowse (h/t the West Ham Way).
West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is clearly not a fan of the midfielder, paving the way for Everton to move for him.
Ward-Prowse has been banished from first-team training at Rush Green despite not falling out with the manager, but Everton could provide an escape route.
Everton aim to bolster their ranks with quality as they bid to secure a place in the top half of the Premier League, and the 31-year-old is a stellar option to have.
The Toffees are not alone in the race, with his former club Southampton also showing interest in taking him back.
He will likely leave in the January transfer window, and Everton may attempt to take the ‘world-class‘ star to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
However, while Ward-Prowse would add experience and set-piece quality, Everton should be far more focused on securing a reliable goalscorer.
Another tidy midfielder won’t solve the Toffees’ long-standing issues in front of goal.
Everton’s biggest weakness is their lack of a clinical striker who can convert the half-chances this team routinely creates.
The club must direct their January investment towards a striker who can provide them with the cutting edge they sorely need.
