Everton are interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Sacha Boey in the January window, but it will be difficult to lure him away.

The Toffees are 10th in the Premier League table, and are doing so well under David Moyes.

The Merseyside club are looking to sign a new right-back this summer, and they have earmarked Boey as a potential option.

Everton have Seamus Coleman, Nathan Patterson and Jake O’Brien as three right-backs.

Coleman is approaching the end of his career, while Patterson could be sold after failing to fulfil his potential since joining from Rangers.

Boey joined Bayern Munich in the January window of 2024 and has made 36 appearances for the German club across all competitions.

Christian Falk informed CFBayern that Marseille and Lyon are also interested in signing Boey, along with Everton, but the defender does not want to move.

The Bild journalist said: “It is TRUE: Everton, Marseille and Lyon hold interest in Sacha Boey. There is interest, especially from France! But Boey doesn’t want to move! So everyone is a little irritated. But the fact of the matter is he’s currently earning a lot of money at Bayern. They also paid a big transfer fee for him. I don’t know why, but he’s feeling confident in Munich.

“I know that Vincent Kompany wasn’t so happy with the fullback in the weeks before Christmas. The Belgian head coach has some clear, strict rules – everyone on the bench has to be prepared for the possibility of getting onto the pitch. When he wanted to make a substitution in one game with Boey, the Frenchman wasn’t ready, and Kompany was really angry about this. That’s part of the reason why he’s not getting many minutes. But the player had also had some health issues (gastroenteritis).”

Boey facing an uncertain future at Bayern

The defender has made only five Bundesliga starts, with a further four appearances from the bench. However, his last start came in Bayern’s 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach, back in October.

Vincent Kompany has Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic as two right-backs, while Tom Bischof and Joshua Kimmich can play if needed.

The former Galatasaray defender has a contract at Bayern until 2028, but it looks really difficult to continue at the club beyond next summer.
