Manchester City’s Rico Lewis may have the opportunity to move on from the Etihad Stadium this summer to another top-level Premier League outfit.

For Lewis, the previous 2025/26 season proved to be a sobering experience, failing to accumulate sufficient minutes and starting opportunities for City outside of cup competitions, and often being left out of first-team matchday squads entirely.

The 21-year-old fell down the pecking order at right-back behind Matheus Nunes – who has firmly established himself as the Etihad Stadium’s first-choice in the role – and logged just 22 appearances across all competitions, with an average of 50.2 minutes per outing.

This lack of consistent minutes directly impacted his international standing, with Lewis missing out on Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the now-ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, and igniting discussions regarding a ‘career-saving’ move away from East Manchester.

Premier League interest mounts for Rico Lewis

Now, according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Everton have identified Manchester City’s Rico Lewis as a potential transfer target to bolster their right-back position during the ongoing summer window.

However, extracting the versatile England international from Manchester City and the Etihad Stadium will not be a straightforward financial exercise for the Hill Dickinson Stadium board, despite the youngster being on the periphery of the club’s first-team plans.

Man City’s stance on Lewis’ future and a potential sale

While Manchester City are not actively pushing their academy graduate out of the door this summer, it is expected that they will certainly not stand in the player’s way if a transfer request is submitted and a suitable proposal is placed on the table.

City are likely to place a valuation north of £35 million on Lewis, having already mentioned his name during talks with Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson, and the City Ground club likely to retain interest from a failed approach last summer.

Manchester City are believed to be in the market for a new right-back this summer, and have already been linked with the likes of Chelsea’s Malo Gusto – a personal favourite of Enzo Maresca – and Feyenoord’s Givairo Read.
