Nottingham Forest are weighing up a move for Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi, with teammate Santiago Castro also under consideration, amid a quiet start to the window.

According to Il Resto Del Carlino, the Reds have both players in their sights, and Bournemouth are also keen on Lucumi. The centre-back has 12 months left on his contract.

Juventus have already failed with an offer worth €18m (£15.5m) for the 28-year-old, a package far from Bologna’s valuation.

Castro is valued around €40m (£34.5m) and has been linked with Chelsea and Aston Villa. Forest tracked the forward last year.

Head coach Vitor Pereira believes only minor tweaks are needed, though ins and outs are expected. Up front he has Chris Wood, Igor Jesus, Taiwo Awoniyi and Arnaud Kalimuendo, with Eintracht Frankfurt wanting Kalimuendo permanently and Awoniyi the subject of rumours.

There has also been speculation over centre-back Morato, so reinforcing the defence could make sense if he departs, particularly if Pereira considers a back three.

Full-back is likely to be addressed before the window closes, with Atalanta interested in Nicolo Savona, which could leave Forest light if he moves.

The Daily Mail reports Rico Lewis was mentioned during talks between Forest and Manchester City as a deal for Elliot Anderson was thrashed out. It adds Anderson has not yet officially completed a £116m switch to the Etihad. Forest are keeping tabs on Lewis, 21, who mainly plays right-back but can fill in on the left or in defensive midfield.
