Avoiding defeat will be our number one aim, and despite many thinking ahead to our most vital domestic clash of the season on Sunday against Hearts at Tynecastle, this showdown with the Serie A side in my eyes, is just as important.

Sunday’s game with the table topping Jambos is naturally hogging the headlines due to it being billed as a title defining match for Celtic, which it definitely is. To say it’s huge would an understatement, but each and every game at Celtic Football club is important, no matter the circumstances, such is the demands of playing for a big club, it comes with the territory and always will.

Losing in Bologna shouldn’t be a thought that even enters our minds. Although a draw would be acceptable, a win would not only boost our hopes of qualification, it would give us a much needed confidence booster heading into the capital showdown. So a win should be our ultimate target on the night.

Of course, Martin O’Neill will need to make a few adjustments on the playing front due to the demand of playing two massive games in such a short space of time, but he’s a very experienced manager who’s been over the course many times before, and it’s a challenge he and the players are more than capable of overcoming.

Some will claim that tonight doesn’t matter, but just like Sunday it’s a game that we need to be winning. Nothing less is acceptable. Let’s go all out for the win, and be of the same mindset come Sunday when it’s time to travel to the capital.

Heading to Edinburgh on the back of a confidence boosting win in Bologna is the best possible scenario for our chances through there against a Hearts team who were gifted three points at Celtic Park thanks to the boardroom decision making that has left us where we are in the league and emptied a trophy from the cabinet at Celtic Park.

Two wins has to be the target, and it’s something that’s more than achievable. Bologna have been on a poor run of domestic form and their own confidence will be lower than otherwise expected. With Nancy in charge we’d have had no chance, let’s be honest but with a proper Celtic manager who has already shown in Rotterdam that he can get a big European win on the road then a victory is certainly achievable.

Let’s do this Celtic, tonight then again on Sunday and suddenly our season will be looking salvageable. In Martin we trust. Come on you Bhoys in green.
