Taking a look back at every manager appointed by Dejphon Chansiri at Sheffield Wednesday

Dejphon Chansiri became Sheffield Wednesday owner in January 2015 and his time at the club came to an end a full decade later in October 2025.

During that period he went from hero to zero at Hillsborough, particularly with the Owls going into administration in his final year in charge, having previously flirted with the Premier League.

The Yorkshire outfit’s high points over that decade included reaching the play-off final in 2016 and the semi-finals in 2017, but relegation to League One in 2021 was a particular low point.

Sheffield Wednesday did return to the Championship in 2023 after consecutive top six finishes, but are now set to be relegated again this season.

Here we take a look back at every permanent manager appointed by Chansiri at Hillsborough, and there they are now.

Carlos Carvalhal

Carlos Carvalhal joined Sheffield Wednesday on 30 June 2015, and he spent over two years in charge of the team.

He guided them to both of their play-off places in the Championship under Chansiri but a disappointing 2017/18 campaign led to his departure in December 2017.

The Portuguese coach is now out of work after departing Braga for the third time. He is remaining active in the media as he recently posted about his episode of the Coaches' Voice in which he explained how he oversaw a 1-0 win over Liverpool when he was in charge at Swansea in January 2018.

Jos Luhukay

Jos Luhukay replaced Carvalhal, and he led the team to a 15th place finish in the league to end that campaign.

But he was sacked by December 2018 after another disappointing first half of the second division season.

The now 62-year-old hasn’t worked as a coach since his stint with Dutch side VVV Venlo came to an end in 2022, and he has kept quite a low profile in the years since then.

Steve Bruce

Steve Bruce arrived at Hillsborough on 1 February 2019, but he departed the club again that summer following a 12th place finish in the Championship that had shown real promise.

He went on to manage Newcastle United, West Brom and Blackpool in the years since, but his exit from the Tangerines last October has proved to be his final job in football for now.

He was recently tipped for a role with Manchester United by former teammate Nicky Butt following Ruben Amorim's sacking, and he took part in Salford City's This is Salford series in which he opened up about growing up in the area along with his son Alex.

Garry Monk

Garry Monk took charge of Sheffield Wednesday after the start of the 2019/20 campaign, and he lasted 14 months in charge under Chansiri.

The 46-year-old oversaw a 16th place finish in the second tier before being dismissed in November 2022.

He’s worked at just one club since then, taking charge of Cambridge United in 2024, but he departed in 2025, and he is now out of work.

Monk's work as a coach extends beyond working at a club, though, as he also currently runs a business, The Coaches Hub, which seeks to help coaches working at all levels of the game.

Writing on their website, he explains that his aim for the company is to provide a resource to help coaches continue to educate themselves about player development.

"Throughout my career, both on the pitch and in the dugout, I've experienced the game at its highest levels," wrote Monk, via soccer-profile.

"I know just how vital quality coaching, continuous education, and access to reliable resources are to a coach's journey and to player development.

"That's why I built the Coaches Hub."

Tony Pulis

Tony Pulis only oversaw 10 games in charge of Sheffield Wednesday, lasting just over a month as manager before being dismissed.

This has proved to be the 68-year-old’s final role in management, as he has not returned to coaching in the five years since his one-month stint at the club.

Tony Pulis may not be managing at the moment, but he is staying in the spotlight through his podcast The Managers, which he hosts alongside Mick McCarthy.

Darren Moore

Darren Moore was unable to prevent Sheffield Wednesday from suffering relegation to League One when he replaced Pulis, but he enjoyed two strong campaigns in the third tier that ended in a remarkable play-off victory over Barnsley.

But the 51-year-old departed before the Championship season got underway, and he has since spent time in charge of both Huddersfield Town and Port Vale, although he is currently out of work.

He was sacked by the League One side in December 2025 following a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of the Terriers.

Xisco Munoz

Xisco Munoz was another disastrous appointment by Chansiri, with the Spaniard only overseeing 12 games in charge.

The former Watford boss moved on to DAC Dunajska Streda in Slovakia after leaving Hillsborough, and he is currently manager at Johor Darul Ta’zim in Malaysia.

Danny Rohl

Danny Rohl became head coach in place of Munoz, and he oversaw an impressive first season at the club, avoiding relegation to League One.

A 12th place campaign in his second year was troubled by turbulent issues behind the scenes that culminated in him departing before the 2025/26 campaign.

The German is now in charge at Rangers, with the team chasing a first league title since 2021.

Henrik Pedersen

Henrik Pedersen stepped into the role as head coach following Rohl’s exit, moving up from assistant role.

The Dane has endured a difficult time in charge at Hillsborough, particularly with the club now in administration and heading for life back in the third tier.
