Manchester City defender Marc Guehi spoke very highly of his experience so far at the Etihad Stadium since joining from Crystal Palace in January.

The England international is set to start for his country at this summer’s FIFA World Cup across the Atlantic and after being humbled in the first set of UEFA Champions League appearances of his career in a 5-1 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid last month, Guehi was dropped to the bench in the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal.

However, the Chelsea academy graduate was recalled to the lineup against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday and alongside man-of-the-moment Abdukodir Khusanov, Guehi led Manchester City to another shutout ahead of monumental Premier League games against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Five Things Learned: Manchester City 4-0 Liverpool (FA Cup Quarter Final)

Guehi on Man City start: It’s everything I wanted it to be

In a passionate post-match interview with TNT Sports, Guehi gave a peak through the curtain into how his first few months at the Etihad Stadium have treated him.

“It’s hard to put into words,” Guehi said. “It’s relentless, exciting, everything I wanted, to be able to play at this level, challenge for trophies. But just learning a lot, being able to make mistakes, coming out again and learning again.

“It’s something I want to do and I’ve been given the opportunity to do that here, with a fantastic football club, amazing players, amazing manager, and the fans have been great as well.”

Quizzed on what it has been like working with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, the Ivory Coast-born star added: “He just loves football, loves his players and just wants to win.”

How has Guehi adapted to life at Man City?

Guehi was thrown straight into the deep end by Guardiola upon his arrival from Palace in January, establishing himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet quickly alongside fellow mid-season signing Antoine Semenyo.

City dealt with a difficult injury situation in defence in January, sparking an urgent deal with Palace to bring Guehi to the club and forcing the club to recall academy star Max Alleyne midway through a season-long loan at Watford.

Match Report & Player Ratings: Manchester City 4-0 Liverpool (FA Cup Quarter Final)

The centre-half seamlessly integrated into the Manchester City ranks and has been a regular fixture for the Blues, who are chasing a domestic treble and took a major step towards winning the FA Cup by beating Liverpool on Saturday afternoon and entering the semi-final for a record eighth consecutive year.

Guehi’s impressive start at the club will instil great confidence over their defensive prospects for the seasons to come and soften the blow as John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake close in on departures this season.
