Han Kwang-song has reappeared on the international scene with North Korea, over two years after his disappearance following his brief spells at Cagliari and Juventus.
The North Korean striker broke through with the Sardinian side in 2017 and quickly began to impress with his talents on the pitch, scoring a hat-trick in a training match on his first day. He scored once and provided one assist for the Cagliari first team before heading off to Perugia on loan.
After impressing over two years in Serie B, Han earnt a move to Juventus in September 2019, joining on a two-year loan deal with a €3.5m obligation to buy clause attached. He ended up scoring once and providing two assists across 20 games for the Under-23 squad.
Han Kwang-song dreamed of playing for the Juventus first team but was sold to Al-Duhail just six days after making his definitive transfer to Juventus, joining the Qatari side in a deal worth €7m.
He did well in Qatar, scoring three goals across 10 league games as Al-Duhail went on to lift the league title.
Questions regarding where his salary was going and the COVID pandemic proved problematic, however, and he played his last match on August 21, 2020 before suddenly disappearing.
On Tuesday this week, North Korea linked newspaper Choson Sinbo reported that Han Kwang-song was playing for local club April 25, and he’s been an active part of the national team since their return to football, appearing in their last three games against Japan, Myanmar and Syria.
