The pair are accused of attacking Kevin Lynch at Fairway, Huyton, on Sunday eight March. Prosecutor Chelsea Kearns said Mr Lynch, 51, had been drinking with them at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club and that footage appeared to show Barton and Mr Lynch in a heated discussion.

The men went outside, where a witness reported seeing a man being assaulted and an ambulance was called. Mr Lynch is in a serious but stable condition in hospital, and there is a possibility he may lose sight in one eye.

The case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court for a plea hearing on seven April. District Judge James Hatton ordered Barton, who wore a navy blue jumper, to remain in custody until then, while O’Grady, in a grey tracksuit, was granted conditional bail.
