Millwall are keen on former Leeds United striker Max Dean - currently at Belgian Pro League outfit Gent.

Championship play-off semi-finalists Millwall are eyeing up a striker from the Belgian Pro League as part of their summer recruitment drive, sources have exclusively told Football League World.

The Lions were ultimately disappointed to be denied a spot at Wembley in May as Hull City defeated them over two legs, but Alex Neil and his recruitment team have wasted no time in getting to work to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Players such as Billy Mitchell, Danny McNamara, Barry Bannan and others have moved on, but they have been replaced by younger, exciting talents, with Peterborough United winger Kyrell Lisbie, Rodez striker Tairyk Arconte, versatile Mechelen midfielder Mathis Servais and Bradford City's Jenson Metcalfe, as well as also adding utility player Mark Sykes on a free from Bristol City and towering centre-back Elkan Baggott of Ipswich Town.

The South Bermondsey outfit aren't done there though. There is still some strengthening to be done of Neil's squad, and he's still looking to add to his attacking unit before the September 1 transfer deadline strikes.

FLW understands that despite already adding Guadeloupe international Arconte to their ranks after his 14-goal haul in France's second tier last season, Millwall are one of the clubs looking at Gent attacker Max Dean this summer.

Other Championship clubs are also keen on the 22-year-old, who was born in the Lancashire town of Ormskirk, but Millwall well and truly have him on their radar after two years in mainland Europe.

Dean came through the Leeds United academy, but did not make an appearances for the Whites' first-team before he was signed by MK Dons - then of League One - in January 2023, who at the time were managed by the striker's former coach at Elland Road, Mark Jackson.

In his year-and-a-half at Stadium MK, Dean found the back of the net 20 times in just 43 appearances, which saw him earn a move to Gent in the summer of 2024 for around the £2 million mark.

Max Dean has performed well for Gent despite long-term knee injury

His first season in Belgium was ended early after scoring 13 goals in 30 matches in all competitions, suffering a knee injury on Boxing Day 2024 that would keep him out of competitive football for the best part of nine months.

When Dean did return for Gent, he featured 24 times, scoring seven goals, and he's already appeared twice for his club this season in UEFA Europa Conference League action against LNZ Cherkasy of Ukraine.

With two years left on his four-year deal at the Planet Group Arena, Dean could now move on this summer and return to British shores, but if Millwall are going to try and secure his services, they will likely face competition from other second tier clubs for his services.
