The Ammies are set to splash the cash once more on a player who has been a key figure in the division above

Salford City are closing in on another major transfer coup ahead of the League Two season as they look set to raid a team from the division above for a star player, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

The Ammies are coming off the back of a disappointing fourth tier play-off final defeat at the hands of Notts County at Wembley in May, and that result led to the departure of manager Karl Robinson after nearly two-and-a-half years at the helm.

In an unexpected twist though, Salford’s hierarchy - which includes Gary Neville and David Beckham as owners - have hired a relative unknown as Robinson’s successor, with Australian coach Peter Cklamovski, who was Malaysia’s manager at the time, arriving at Moor Lane to become the club’s new manager.

A former assistant of Ange Postecoglou, Cklamovski has certainly been backed since his arrival, with a major coup for Millwall striker Macaulay Langstaff taking place, as he drops two divisions to play in the newly-restored orange kit of Salford, having scored 28 times for Notts County at League Two level in 2023-24.

A number of other established League One and Two players have also signed on the dotted line, such as Abraham Odoh, Joe Powell and Will Aimson, but Salford look like they are set to complete another big transfer coup themselves.

Salford City closing in on Doncaster Rovers transfer deal

FLW understands that Salford City are on the verge of landing the services of highly-rated Doncaster Rovers winger Luke Molyneux.

It was revealed by Rovers manager Grant McCann on July 23 that Molyneux had turned down a new contract at the Club Doncaster Sports Village, with less than one year remaining on his current deal, and that a bid from another club had also been snubbed.

However, FLW can reveal that Salford are indeed closing in on the signature of the 28-year-old, who is now expected to drop down a level into the fourth tier of English football.

Molyneux scored eight times in League One for Doncaster last season, as well as notching seven assists in his 40 appearances, and in 2024-25 he had a standout campaign in League Two, firing in 16 goals from out wide as well as grabbing 12 assists as well.

The Sunderland academy graduate, who is a left-footed right-winger, looks to have played his final game in a Doncaster shirt now after four successful years with the South Yorkshire outfit, but he will be stepping down a level - one he knows very well - for his next move.
