- Born in Paris on 29 December 2005, Jaouen's family moved to Brittany when he was five years old before joining Guingamp's Academy at the age of 12.
Jaouen was given the nickname 'Les menhirs' whilst growing up, a word which comes from the Breton language, a Celtic language spoken in Brittany, France.
It involves a combination of two Breton words: "maen" (meaning stone) and "hir" (meaning long).
After spending five years at Guingamp's youth set-up, making his debut for the club's reserve team aged 16 in February 2022, Jaouen joined Stade de Reims in the summer of 2023 and played 15 league matches for the club's reserve team.
- The teenage 'keeper, who cites Manuel Neuer as his footballing idol, carried out a loan stint at French side Rodez for the remainder of the 2023/24 season, the first of his career, following a number of injuries to the club's goalkeepers.
Jaouen was handed his Ligue 2 debut in April 2024, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 win against AJ Auxerre and recorded three shutouts during six matches in the French second tier.
- Jaouen gained further senior experience after joining USL Dunkerque, part-owned by former Magpies striker Demba Ba, on loan for the duration of the 2024/25 campaign.
The young Frenchman kept seven clean sheets across all competitions and played a significant part in Dunkerque's extraordinary run to the Coupe de France semi-finals, their deepest progression in the competition since 1929.
The Maritimes defeated three Ligue 1 sides en route to the last four, with Jaouen proving the hero in Dunkerque's last-16 tie against Lille.
Following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, Jaouen saved a penalty in the shoot-out before netting the decisive spot-kick.
Dunkerque exited the competition at the hands of eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain following a 4-2 loss despite leading by two goals against the European champions.
After a fourth place finish in Ligue 2, Dunkerque missed out on automatic qualification to the French top-flight after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against Metz in the play-off semi-finals, who would beat Reims in the final to confirm relegation for his parent club.
- Jaouen, who stands at two metres tall, secured the number one role at Reims last term, playing every minute of their Ligue 2 campaign.
The Parisian enjoyed an impressive spell in-between the sticks, keeping the most clean sheets of any goalkeeper in the division (15) as Reims finished in sixth place, two points adrift of the play-off spots.
Jaouen kept six successive clean sheets in Ligue 2, going over 620 minutes without conceding a goal before his impressive run was ended against former club Dunkerque in March.
- Jaouen has represented his country at numerous age groups, ranging from under-16 to under-21 level.
After making his U17s bow as a 15-year-old, the promising goalkeeper progressed through his country's youth ranks and made his U21s debut during November's European U21 Championship qualifier against Switzerland before keeping a clean sheet in France's 1-0 win against the Faroe Islands.
Les Bleuets will be aiming to secure their place at next summer's finals in Albania and Serbia when completing their qualifying campaign in October, currently occupying top spot in Group C.
- The 20-year-old shot-stopper, awaiting his debut in top-flight football, is hopeful of making a strong impression with his new club as he completes the first move of his career outside of his native homeland.
Speaking fluently in English during his first interview as a Newcastle player, Jaouen told newcastleunited.com: "I'm still developing. I'm still a young keeper and I know the club is developing also.
"I want to progress on the pitch. I know when I play games, I love when there is a huge atmosphere and that's what I'm looking for here; to progress but to be a member of this family."
