Wesley Fofana was in tears after Chelsea were knocked out by Arsenal in the EFL Cup this month, and he’s now revealed why.
Chelsea were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Arsenal at the start of this month, and at full time defender Wesley Fofana was in tears. He’s finally now spoken about why that was.
“I was very affected. I still haven’t won a trophy with Chelsea. My teammates have won trophies, but I haven’t been present. That has affected me because I want to win a trophy this year,” he told Telefoot in quotes translated by GetFootballNewsFrance.
So, he was upset because he won’t be able to add to his own personal trophy cabinet?
It’s not quite the team-first attitude we’re looking for in key players, we’ll be honest. But maybe that’s just us…
Far more egregious was his red card on Saturday. He made a really silly tackle while on a yellow card, and his dismissal completely changed the game. Not only did we drop two points in that game, he will also now be suspended for our next match – against Arsenal ironically enough.

The defender also spoke a little about his injury struggles since coming to Chelsea, and how that’s been compounded by his huge price tag:
“It’s hard when you’re coming back from injury. You doubt everything. You tell yourself that you’re no longer the same player, that you have lost everything,” Fofana said.
“Every error you make, the fans remember the price tag, but it is part of the game.”
Chelsea have been linked with a player starring for Moises Caicedo’s old club in South America.
One bad habit we had from Enzo Maresca’s time in charge has just been repeated by Liam Rosenior. We hope to see something change.
