Fantasy Bundesliga tips: Midfielders to consider for the start of the 2026/27 season | OneFootball

With the 2026/27 Bundesliga season just around the corner, we're here to give you a helping hand with your Fantasy Bundesliga team.

In the third article of our series highlighting key players by position, we take a look at the midfielders you should have on your radar when building your squad for the start of the season. 

Budget options:

Dejan Ljubicic, Schalke 04 – 2.71m

If you're on the lookout for the cheapest possible midfield enabler, Ljubicic looks like the man to get. At 2.71 million, he is currently the joint-cheapest projected starter in midfield, alongside Elversberg's Lukasz Poreba. Ljubicic played in an attacking role in Schalke's 5-2 extra-time DFB-Pokal win over Hallescher and got on the scoresheet, but it's worth noting that he is likely to move to the wing-back position if captain Kenan Karaman is fit enough to return to the starting XI on Sunday.

Ezechiel Banzuzi, RB Leipzig – 4.14m

With Rocco Reitz still needing time to adjust to his new club and working his way back to his best after an injury spell, Banzuzi looks set to start in midfield as a No. 8 for Leipzig at the beginning of the season. He most recently scored and provided an assist in the DFB-Pokal and could benefit from Leipzig's favourable opening schedule.

Adil Aouchiche, Schalke 04 – 6.48m

Aouchiche played a key role in Schalke's promotion to the Bundesliga following his January move from Sunderland, scoring three goals and providing five assists in 14 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga for the Royal Blues. He'll now be hoping to carry that impressive form into the top flight. Schalke open the season with a fairly even-looking fixture against Augsburg, but it's worth noting that they face a tough second-round DFB-Pokal tie against Bayern Munich. 

Mid-range options:

Yuito Suzuki, Freiburg – 7.73m

After a promising first season at Freiburg, in which Suzuki scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 41 appearances across all competitions, the Japanese playmaker will now be looking to take the next step forward. Suzuki should be a nailed-on starter for a Freiburg side with a decent opening schedule and, all things considered, appears to have been priced too low.

Jae-sung Lee, Mainz – 9.5m

With Paul Nebel sidelined, Lee looks nailed on to start in midfield for Mainz, who begin the season at home against newly-promoted Paderborn. A seasoned Bundesliga midfielder, Lee has an eye for goal, having scored 30 goals and provided 25 assists in 171 appearances for Mainz in all competitions. He's also a tireless worker off the ball, which could help him pick up additional points from duels won.

Brajan Gruda, Mainz – 12.63m

After an impressive loan spell at RB Leipzig from Brighton & Hove Albion in the second half of last season, Gruda is now back at the Bundesliga club and looks set to play an even bigger role. A creative player capable of racking up both goals and assists, the attacking midfielder has the potential to explode when he's at his best. The fact that Leipzig have a favourable opening schedule only adds to his appeal.

Premium options:

Konstatinos Karetsas, Borussia Dortmund – 15.7m

Expectations are high for Dortmund's new 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who showed glimpses of his potential in Saturday's 2-1 DFL-Supercup defeat to Bayern Munich, with his technical ability, dribbling and passing catching the eye. Dortmund's attractive opening schedule should give Karetsas a good platform to make a strong start, but his price tag is arguably on the high side for an 18-year-old who is only just beginning his Bundesliga career.

Nadiem Amiri, Mainz – 20.49m

Speaking of high prices, Amiri is the fifth-most expensive midfielder in the game after receiving a significant price boost. It's not without reason, though, as the German international is Mainz's designated set-piece taker and racked up an impressive 17 goals and four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions last season. In Mainz's 9-0 win over VfB Krieschow in the DFB-Pokal last week, Amiri scored twice and provided two assists, ensuring a strong start to the new season. With newly-promoted SC Paderborn up next at home, he may just be worth the investment.

Michael Olise, FC Bayern  – 37.51m

Michael Olise was unmatched in terms of Fantasy points last season and will be extremely difficult to leave out, even with his hefty price tag. The French international was involved in 53 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions for Bayern in the 2025/26 campaign, and there's little reason to expect his output to drop this term.
