Renato Portaluppi is returning to Grêmio, with Luiz Felipe Scolari leading training on an interim basis after Luís Castro’s exit. According to Globo.com, the former coach and club idol took Monday’s session while Renato prepares to assume the role.

Scolari’s temporary backroom team has been drawn from the academy, after the board dismissed members of the permanent staff when Luís Castro arrived at the start of 2026.

Kauê Belmonte, the under-20 coach, serves as assistant. Rogério Dias, who oversees fitness across the academy, is the fitness coach, with Marcel Cardozo assisting. Humberto Flores, also from the under-20s, is goalkeeping coach.

Grêmio plan for Scolari to take the team against Botafogo on Wednesday at 19:30 at Nilton Santos, a rescheduled Brasileirão fixture. Renato will join the travelling party on Tuesday afternoon in Rio de Janeiro.

There has been no confirmation of any change to that schedule. Scolari will also lead Tuesday morning training at CT Luiz Carvalho before the flight to Rio.
