Felix Nmecha: United told what they must do to sign Dortmund star

Manchester United have kept their composure in the transfer market so far, refusing to give in to the exorbitant demands of selling clubs.

In contrast, Tottenham Hotspur have completed two deals that would see their transfer record broken twice within a few days. Manchester City, meanwhile, have agreed to break the British transfer record for their priority target.

All three deals are for midfielders in a summer during which United want to overhaul their midfield. These major deals are likely to influence the club’s plans despite their firm stance against paying a premium.

Manchester United in contact for Felix Nmecha

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are now eyeing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha.

It is believed United have already “made enquiries as to his availability” this summer, with Nmecha keen on a move to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old Germany international, known for his physicality and athleticism, came through the ranks at Manchester City during Jason Wilcox’s tenure in charge of their youth set-up.

It has previously been reported that United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is in close contact with the player’s camp.

However, Dortmund are masters of what West Ham United and Nottingham Forest did this summer, having made several massive sales over the last decade. Still, what has happened in England in the last week is expected to further strengthen the Bundesliga giants’ resolve.

Manchester United told to pay £103m to land Felix Nmecha

The Athletic claims that Dortmund sources have said that the German giants value Nmecha at around €120million (about £103m; $137m). The 6’3″ midfield dynamo is under contract until 2030 at Signal Iduna Park.

“That conversation took place before Germany’s exit from the World Cup at the round of 32 stage, during which Nmecha’s reputation suffered following poor performances in losses to Ecuador and Paraguay,” the report states.

“But quizzed on the figure, with the suggestion that it was high, the source pointed directly to the Anderson story. The clubs had not agreed a fee by that stage, but City were always going to have to pay more than £100million to get their man.”

Now, INEOS face the prospect of either breaking their transfer record to land someone who, despite perfectly fitting the profile of midfielders they are seeking, was not among their priority targets at the start of the summer, or heading into the season with an undercooked midfield.
