The forward Ferran Torres was the most high-profile departure from FC Barcelona during the last summer transfer window, as he joined the current European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, in exchange for around €50 million.
The Spaniard has made an instant impact in his new team. He was decisive for the Parisians during their first game of the new Ligue 1 season, as he scored two goals to help his team salvage a 2-2 draw against Rennes, even though Luis Enrique’s side was facing a two-goal deficit when Torres was subbed on.
However, his cameo in his new team’s UEFA Champions League opener against Slovan Bratislava was even more memorable, as he scored a hat-trick in a span of 26 minutes on the match clock.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the forward also talked to the media after the match, and, among other things, talked about the Blaugrana club’s chances of winning the UCL. He named his former side as one of the favorites to win the biggest European trophy:
“Yes, Barcelona are one of the favorites to win the Champions League. Real Madrid are also contenders, as are Bayern Munich, and so are we. It is going to be a great race.”
Among the four sides he named, three have started their UCL campaigns with wins, while Bayern Munich are yet to play their opening game. However, Barcelona and PSG were particularly impressive in this opening round of the UCL League Phase, as they won 5-1 and 6-1 respectively.
However, their first games were against relatively weaker sides, and there is no doubt that they will have to face significantly tougher tests going forward. Still, with the way they have started their campaigns, it is easy to understand why Ferran Torres has named Barcelona as one of the favorites to win the UCL.
