Ferran Torres marked a landmark civic day on Friday, becoming an ambassador for the Comunitat Valenciana and paying tribute to victims of the DANA. The Barça forward also took part in institutional and hometown tributes.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, president Juanfran Pérez Llorca received him at the Palau to sign a protocol making Torres the region’s image and ambassador, with the aim of promoting the Comunitat nationally and internationally through joint initiatives.

The honour follows 19 July in New Jersey, when his extra-time goal against Argentina delivered Spain’s second World Cup. Torres thanked Valencians for their support, saying Valencia is his home, where he formed values and commitments he will not abandon.

He said he lifts the senyera after every triumph, as he did at the World Cup. He remembered the DANA and its victims, and described his goal as belonging to all Spaniards and reflecting the region’s resilience.

Torres called the role a responsibility and said he wants projects for young people that promote positive values. He added that he intends to keep raising the profile of the Comunitat Valenciana.

Pérez Llorca said Valencians are proud that a neighbour achieved something beyond sport, and that seeing Torres carry the senyera stirred a powerful sense of belonging. He stressed the protocol should be a lasting commitment, not a fleeting image.

The president revealed that Torres set only one condition to accept the role, not to be paid, praising that stance as a significant commitment. He said Torres will be a great ambassador who will take the region’s name around the world.
