The French Football Federation will not pursue its legal complaint against OM president Pablo Longoria over his criticism of refereeing in February. It did not pay the required judicial deposit.
According to L'Équipe, the FFF and the LFP lodged a joint defamation complaint on 12 May, following Longoria’s comments after OM’s 0-3 defeat at Auxerre on 22 February.
The move comes amid strained relations between the FFF and the LFP over governance reform. At Saturday’s federal assembly, FFF secretary general Joëlle Montlouis took aim at Vincent Labrune’s absence, prompting some whistles despite director general Arnaud Rouger being present.
On Monday, the LFP president sent a letter to FFF counterpart Philippe Diallo. The correspondence related to the joint case against Longoria.
For that outburst, Longoria was banned for nine months by the LFP’s disciplinary commission. The FFF considers the 15-match sanction proportionate and sufficient reason not to follow up its complaint.
