FIFA approves AFA request to ease Argentina national team bans | OneFootball

FIFA has approved an Argentine Football Association (AFA) request that mitigates national-team suspensions stemming from the aftermath of the 2026 World Cup final. According to SuperDepor.com, the bans can be served in A class friendlies or official senior internationals, whichever comes first.

Leandro Paredes was banned for 10 matches, Nahuel Molina for 7 and Roberto Ayala for 3. Thiago Almada and Spain’s Gavi received one game each. The suspensions apply only to internationals and will not affect club duties.

The AFA is awaiting the written reasons to lodge appeals with FIFA’s Appeals Committee, with CAS a possible final instance.

The federation must also pay $321,000 for breaches recorded during the tournament, including non-sporting expressions, team misconduct, discriminatory episodes, security issues and spectator behaviour.

The case also covered political messages, after players displayed a flag reading “Las Malvinas son argentinas” after eliminating England in the semi-finals.

For discrimination-related infringements, FIFA ordered Argentina to play their next two home games with a 50 percent crowd restriction. One of those matches, and $100,000 of the fine, has been suspended during a probationary period.

Argentina must therefore play at least their next home fixture at half capacity, while the second sanction depends on future conduct. Separately, $100,000 of the $321,000 must be directed to a specific anti-discrimination plan.
