Flamengo will receive Fifa compensation after Arrascaeta fractured his left wrist on Uruguay duty, ruling him out of the Libertadores semi-final against Estudiantes of Argentina.

According to Globo.com, the Fifa Club Protection Programme covers national-team injuries during Fifa windows and pays from the 29th day after the incident. It has been in place since January 2023 and runs to December 2026.

The playmaker slipped on Monday in the friendly against South Korea and underwent surgery on Thursday. Flamengo’s medical staff estimate a recovery of six to eight weeks.

Compensation is calculated from the player’s annual salary and stops when he returns to training. The programme caps individual cover at 7.5 million euros, with a daily limit of 20,500 euros and a maximum of 365 days.

Given Arrascaeta’s high wage, Flamengo could receive between 287,000 and 574,000 euros, if the daily ceiling applies.

To secure payment, the club must submit its claim within 28 days of the injury, by 26 October.

Flamengo were previously reimbursed when Pedro suffered an ACL rupture with Brazil, missing seven months. The hope now is that Arrascaeta is available for a potential Libertadores final on 28 November, if they get past Estudiantes.
