FIFA has announced that a total of $655 million will be distributed to the teams participating in the 2026 World Cup, marking a significant 50 per cent increase compared with the $440 million prize fund in 2022. In British pounds, that equates to roughly £490 million overall.
Under the new distribution plan, the winners will receive $50 million - about £37.5 million - while the runners-up will take home $33 million (around £25 million). The third- and fourth-placed teams are set to be paid $29 million and $27 million, which works out to roughly £21.5 million and £20 million respectively.
Teams reaching the quarter-finals will each receive $19 million (approximately £14 million), and those exiting in the round of 16 will be guaranteed $15 million (around £11 million).
Additionally, squads finishing between 17th and 32nd will receive around $13 million (about £9.7 million), and teams placed 33rd to 48th will get approximately $10 million (around £7.5 million).
