Matchday 3 of World Cup 26™ is done so here is who performed best according to the official FIFA Power Rankings.
Attacking Impact: Breel Embolo
Embolo provided a focal point for the Swiss attack as well as opening the scoring from the penalty spot.
The forward's score of 6.87 reflects his physical presence which kept defenders on their toes and kept the pressure on throughout the encounter.
Creativity Influence: Rubén Vargas
With a Power Rankings score of 8.01, Vargas offered his nation a regular spark from the left wing.
His role in 16 attempt-at-goal sequences coupled with four completed ball progressions underlined that importance as Switzerland dominated the battle for chances.
Defending Influence: Denis Zakaria
Zakaria's ability to win the ball back was key to Switzerland’s high possession turnover and breaking up Qatar's attempts to go on the offensive.
Eight recoveries, a more than 60% tackle threat and regularly supporting his side's attacks earned him a rating of highly respectable score of 7.95.
Attacking Impact: Vinícius Júnior
Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior remains Brazil's most potent threat, as illustrated by a Power Rankings score of 8.9.
Carlo Ancelotti's side used the forward as their focal point for attacks and were rewarded with a tightly-angled finish to draw them level in the first half.
Creativity Influence: Brahim Díaz
Díaz was Morocco's driving force and the architect of their early opening goal.
Operating between the lines allowed him to complete six out of ten ball progressions that earned him a score of 8.6 for the reigning Africa Cup of Nations holders.
Defending Influence: Marquinhos
The Paris Saint-Germain stalwart scored 7.2 in the Power Rankings due to his highly astute defensive performance which staved off Morocco's counter attacks.
He also made the most possession recoveries with eight while winning three clearances and two blocks to command the penalty area effectively.
Attacking Impact: John McGinn
McGinn's historic winner saw him earn a Power Rankings score of 8.5 as Scotland's most potent attacking threat throughout their Group C opener.
A disruptive influence on Haiti's defensive shape allowed the Aston Villa midfielder to fashion two attempts from open play and rack up an expected goals metric of 0.70.
Creativity Influence: Andy Robertson
Scotland players topped three of the top five creative scores in this game but none stood out more than Robertson, whose energy was a driving factor in the victory.
The left-back proved a perfect foil for his teammates in the final third and produced 15 progressive passes which helped him seal a Power Rankings score of 7.4.
Defending Influence: Hannes Delcroix
Haiti's defence avoided being overwhelmed thanks to Delcroix's resolute display which saw him topping the defensive chart with a score of 8.1.
A proactive approach limited Scotland's high-value chances with two interceptions and three blocks to keep their margin of victory down to its bare minimum.
Attacking Impact: Nestory Irankunda
The scorer of Australia's opening goal earned a Power Ranking score of 8.4.
His contributions to their attacks beyond that made the Watford winger a real asset as Tony Popovic's side saw their Group D campaign off to the best possible start.
Creativity Influence: Paul Okon-Engstler
Okon-Engstler's seamless ability to progress the ball through breaking the lines.
An assist helped him top the creativity charts and register a score of 7.7 as the Socceroos made short work of their European counterparts.
Defending Influence: İsmail Yüksek
Australia's two-goal victory could have been greater but for Yüksek's interventions.
Seven possession regains and winning a further four contests, a figure unrivalled in the match, secured a Power Rankings score of 7.9 for his unrelenting efforts.
At the FIFA World Cup 2026™, FIFA launched a new individual player ranking system based on data collected during matches. The FIFA Power Rankings provide objective, data-driven insight into player performance.
All outfield players will receive a score between 0-10 in three categories (attacking, creativity and defending). Goalkeepers will be scored in two categories: in possession and defending the goal. A ‘Power Ranking Classification’ will be produced after each match round, showing the top 100 players in each category. The Power Ranking is considered as a measure of match and tournament performance: each player receives a score for each match and for their overall performance in the tournament.
