Despite a trophy-laden 2025 as Flamengo’s head coach, Filipe Luís says one of his happiest moments on the touchline came in 2024, when he led the under-20s to a world title against Olympiacos.

"It was a very special day, we were highly motivated to play that game. The Maracanã was full and the occasion meant a lot to the club and to us. It was one of the happiest moments I have had as a coach, especially at the start of my career," he said in an interview published on Monaco’s social media on Tuesday.

On 24 August, Flamengo, then Libertadores champions, faced the European winners Olympiacos. The visitors struck first, but Caio Garcia and Felipe Teresa completed the turnaround, the latter scoring in the 48th minute of the second half.

Within months, Filipe Luís was promoted to the senior role and, still in 2024, won the Copa do Brasil. There were notable victories over Corinthians, with Bruno Henrique sent off in the first half, and a final win against Atlético-MG, the first title in Arena MRV’s history.

In 2025 he lifted the Carioca, Supercopa, Brasileirão, Libertadores, Dérbi das Américas and the Challenger Cup. Only the world title eluded them against PSG, decided by a penalty shootout.

He was dismissed early this year after defeats in the Supercopa and the Recopa. Mid-season he joined Monaco, starting superbly with seven unbeaten matches, six wins and one draw, and leading the French league.
