FIORENTINA SECURE LAST-GASP WIN

Article image:FIORENTINA SECURE LAST-GASP WIN

In Bagno a Ripoli, AC Milan Women lost 4-3 to Fiorentina in a thrilling, chaotic encounter full of twists and turns. For Suzanne Bakker’s side, the loss proved yet another one suffered in the dying moments of the game, after the late defeat against Roma. The Rossonere showed courage and quality but the match slipped away in the final minutes of stoppage time. The game was a rollercoaster of emotions: Kyvåg’s flashes of brilliance, De Sanders’ foul that led to a penalty, Renzotti’s brace, defensive lapses before Janogy’s goals, and finally Giuliani’s late error.

It was a bitter outcome for AC Milan, who had controlled the game right up until the end. Costly lapses in concentration gifted the opponents three points that had seemed destined for the Rossonere, undermining what had otherwise been a convincing collective performance. Renzotti shone with a leader’s display and two goals, while Kyvåg impressed once again as a constant source of pace and creativity. There is still a long way to go this season, plenty of time to correct the shortcomings. The Rossonere stay around mid-table and now look to bounce back quickly – next up, a home clash against Lazio.

MATCH REPORT AC Milan started brightly at Viola Park, with Renzotti testing Fiskerstrand inside three minutes. Soon after, Kyvåg’s cross found Van Dooren, whose header was comfortably saved. Milan kept pressing, as Renzotti set up Kyvåg in the 19th minute, but her shot flew over. Fiorentina eventually opened the scoring in the 25th minute: Snerle was fouled by De Sanders and Severini converted from the spot. The Rossonere hit back quickly. In the 32nd minute, Kyvåg’s burst down the left and low cross found Renzotti for the equaliser. Five minutes later, Mascarello’s delivery and a clever Kyvåg dummy allowed Soffia to tap in for 2-1. Ijeh had a late first-half chance, but her weak effort was saved. Milan led 2-1 at the break.

The second half was pure chaos. Snerle went close from a free kick, then Fiskerstrand denied Ijeh brilliantly. Fiorentina levelled in the 58th as Janogy headed home from a corner. Milan stayed very much in it, with Arrigoni missing narrowly before Renzotti restored the lead in the 77th with a powerful left-footed strike. However, the finale was cruel. Giuliani saved from Bonfantini in the 80th, yet in stoppage time Janogy equalised again before a handling error by Giuliani gifted Tryggvadóttir the winner. 4-3 was a heartbreaking final scoreline for a match Milan had largely controlled.
