“I’m expecting a positive match because I’ve seen how the players have worked over the past few days,” he explained.

“Of course, there’s always the uncertainty that comes after an international break. But from game to game the team has found stronger form, and I’m confident that against such a strong opponent we can deliver a great performance.

“When you play well, the result usually follows.”

Asked whether Inter must improve in direct clashes, Marotta was pragmatic.

“If you look at the statistics, yes. But I think this year’s league is very balanced. We’re only at the seventh matchday, still in a transitional phase.

“What matters most is to repeat a positive performance that shows growth – that’s what we’re aiming for.”

Finally, Marotta highlighted Chivu’s poise in handling the pressure that comes with managing Inter.

“What impressed me most is the calmness with which he’s handled the pressure, which came only from the outside in the form of excessive criticism from those who didn’t know him.

“We were always calm and passed that sense of calm to him naturally,” he said.

“Chivu is a very experienced professional and knows how to handle pressure. His appointment wasn’t a coincidence – it was a well-thought-out choice.”
