Flamengo and Estudiantes agree to keep Libertadores semi first leg at UNO | OneFootball

Flamengo and Estudiantes have agreed to stage their Libertadores semi-final first leg at Estudiantes’ Jorge Luis Hirschi stadium, known as UNO. The deal preserves the venue despite the usual shortfall in away allocation.

Estudiantes keep home advantage, while a whole end behind one goal will be reserved for Flamengo supporters. According to Coluna Do Fla, the section holds about 6,000 people, with 4,000 tickets for the away contingent.

Flamengo viewed the state of the pitch as a key factor in accepting the game at UNO. The club believes the surface will be in good condition for a decisive tie.

Without agreement, Estudiantes could have sought a larger ground, increasing the number of home fans. That switch might have jeopardised pitch standards, so Flamengo preferred to keep the match at UNO.

UNO’s regular away area, by a corner, fits only 2,000 travelling fans. Competition rules require a minimum of 4,000 away tickets at this stage.

Flamengo, Estudiantes and Conmebol are expected to formalise the arrangement in the coming days and discuss organisation for the semi-finals and the final. Representatives of the semi-finalists are due to meet at Conmebol on Thursday 24.

The first leg is set for 15 October at 21:30 Brasília time at Jorge Luis Hirschi. The return is on 22 October at the Maracanã, also at 21:30.

Flamengo will have the chance to seal a place in the final at home. First, they need a positive result in Argentina to carry into the second leg.
