Flamengo’s progress to the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals has delivered a major cash boost. According to Globo.com, the berth is worth US$ 1.7 million, around R$ 9 million, taking their haul this campaign to US$ 5.65 million, roughly R$ 29.3 million.
Sixteen minutes into the second half, Samuel Lino scored from inside the box against Cruzeiro.
The club earned US$ 1 million for group-stage participation, plus US$ 1.7 million for their first-phase performance after posting the best record. Conmebol pays US$ 340,000 per win, and Flamengo won five of their six group games, while last-16 qualification added a further US$ 1.25 million.
Further advancement would increase the pot again, with the semi-finals paying US$ 2.3 million, runners-up US$ 7 million and champions US$ 25 million.
In the last eight, Flamengo will meet the winners of Independiente del Valle versus Tolima. The bracket will be set on 25 August in Ecuador after Conmebol rescheduled fixtures due to the earthquake that struck Colombia.
