Flamengo confirm Alan Santos move to Benfica, forward to start with under-23s | OneFootball

Flamengo confirmed on Monday morning that academy prospect Alan Santos has joined Benfica, thanking the forward and wishing him success. The club said in a statement it had agreed his transfer to the Portuguese side.

Santos will initially link up with Benfica’s under-23s. The deal involves no immediate fee, and Flamengo retain 50 percent of his economic rights for a future sale.

After his first training session in Portugal, Santos called Benfica the biggest club in the country and said he was delighted to wear the shirt. He thanked his parents and hoped to bring joy, score goals and showcase his one-on-one ability over the season.

He made three senior appearances for Flamengo earlier this year, with no goals or assists, when the club used their under-20s at the start of the Carioca. He also took part in a mid-season camp in Portugal but did not convince Leonardo Jardim.

At youth level, he stood out in this year’s Copa Sub-20, as Flamengo finished runners-up. He led the competition for goal involvements with three goals and one assist, and placed second in the scoring charts.
