Joaquín Freitas eyes Flamengo starting berth during FIFA window after assist v Corinthians | OneFootball

Joaquín Freitas is using the international break to press his case for a starting spot at Flamengo after quickly finding room among the club's established names.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the 19-year-old Argentine arrived in the last window to a degree of uncertainty, yet with little time on the training ground he has shown he could add to the side.

Freitas debuted against Remo in the Brasileirão, coming on late in a match Flamengo won. He then featured again under Leonardo Jardim against Corinthians at the Maracanã.

In that game he delivered the assist for a goal in the 2-1 victory over Corinthians. On Sunday, 20 September, he also appeared late in the win against Red Bull Bragantino.

Senior figures such as Rossi and Danilo have made clear he has qualities and is preparing to contribute. The current FIFA window also opens an opportunity, with Pedro and Samuel Lino away with Brazil and set to miss Flamengo sessions, giving Freitas a chance to impress Jardim.

Flamengo also brought in Anthony Valencia in the same window, though for now Freitas is ahead of the young Ecuadorian, who is on duty with Ecuador during this period.
