Flamengo have completed the signing of Ecuadorian forward Anthony Valencia from Royal Antwerp on a deal running to 2031. The 23-year-old will wear 14, previously used by Arrascaeta before the Uruguayan took 10.
"When my agent said Flamengo wanted me, I did not think twice and said yes straight away. Flamengo are a very big club, always fighting for competitions and wanting to win. I like to compete, I came to win titles and contribute to Flamengo," he told FlamengoTV.
He arrived on Sunday, underwent medicals and met director José Boto, then visited Ninho do Urubu on Monday to finalise paperwork and meet team-mates. The club are working to register him in time to be an option against Mirassol on Wednesday at the Maracanã. The registration deadline for the Libertadores quarter-finals is 4 September, while Brazil’s window runs to 11 September.
"Everyone welcomed me and that made me feel good. Many team-mates speak Spanish and help with Portuguese. I hope on Wednesday the coach can count on me and I can get minutes."
He replaces Plata, sold to Dynamo Moscow in recent days. The deal is worth around €5 million, R$ 30.08 million, for 100% of his rights, with Royal Antwerp retaining 15% of any future profit.
Valencia came through Independiente del Valle, whom Flamengo will meet again in the Libertadores quarter-finals. He has 13 goals and seven assists for Antwerp this season and was called up by Ecuador for the 2026 World Cup.
