Flamengo face Friday deadline to register Libertadores signings | OneFootball

Flamengo are racing to register Anthony Valencia and Joaquin Freitas for the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals, with the competition’s list deadline this Friday. Brazil’s transfer window runs until 11 September, but the earlier continental cut-off means they could face Independiente del Valle without Gonzalo Plata.

According to Coluna Do Fla, both forwards have arrived in Rio de Janeiro for medicals and to sign, Valencia joining from Royal Antwerp in Belgium and Freitas from River Plate in Argentina.

Flamengo moved early in the window, attempting to land Thiago Almada before he chose River Plate. A push for Luiz Henrique did not progress, with Zenit keeping the winger in Russia.

Outgoings include Gonzalo Plata’s move to Dynamo Moscow for 10 to 12 million euros, around R$ 60 to R$ 72 million at current rates. Wallace Yan has joined Red Bull Bragantino. Valencia is lined up to replace Plata, while Freitas will back up Pedro at centre-forward.

The first leg against Independiente del Valle is on 10 September at 21:30 Brasília time at Estadio Banco Guayaquil in Ecuador. The return is on 17 September, also at 21:30, at the Maracanã.

Before then, Flamengo host Mirassol in a rescheduled Brasileirão match on Wednesday at 19:30, at the Maracanã. The expectation is that at least Valencia could be available to Leonardo Jardim, as he has recent minutes with Royal Antwerp.
