Rodinei prepares for Flamengo reunion as Santos clash approaches | OneFootball

Former Flamengo defender Rodinei is preparing to face his old club after the international break in the next Brasileirão round. With the meeting days away, the Santos full-back spoke of the different weight of wearing the Santos shirt while keeping his affection for the Rubro-Negro.

“It is hard to explain what I feel, because I am someone who has a lot of affection for every place I go. I played seven years at Flamengo, I played at Inter, but since we were kids we have heard about Pelé, the King of Football. When you wear this shirt, it gives you different goosebumps,” Rodinei said in an interview with ESPN.

Santos announced his signing in early September. He joined on a free after terminating his Olympiacos contract and agreed a deal until December 2027.

Rodinei first arrived at Flamengo in 2016 and stayed until 2022, choosing not to renew. He spent 2020 to 2021 on loan at Internacional. In Rio he won two Libertadores, one Brasileirão, one Copa do Brasil and two Cariocas, playing 223 games with nine goals and 18 assists.

He converted the decisive penalty against Corinthians at the Maracanã to clinch the 2022 Copa do Brasil. In that year’s Libertadores, he combined with Everton Ribeiro before crossing for Gabigol to score against Athletico-PR in Ecuador, sealing Flamengo’s third continental title.

Flamengo face Santos at Vila Belmiro on 8 October, Thursday, at 19:30 Brasília time, in the 29th round of the Brasileirão. The match will be shown on Premiere pay-per-view.
