After an outstanding 2025 under Filipe Luís, Flamengo have opened 2026 with a run of setbacks, yet the hierarchy remain behind their head coach, who has extended his contract to the end of 2027.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the squad returned in the second week of January after finishing 2025 on 17 December, with a plan for the under-20s to start the Campeonato Carioca while the senior group worked through pre-season.
The youngsters fell short, taking two defeats and a draw, so the first team were drafted in early. They began with a strong win over Vasco, hinting at momentum, but then suffered defeats to Fluminense, São Paulo and Corinthians.
On Wednesday, they drew 1-1 with Internacional, extending the sequence of stumbles.
This is the first rocky spell since he took charge in October 2024. He has collected several trophies since, a record that frames the current dip.
