Flamengo have reached a fifth Copa Libertadores semi-final in eight years, their eighth overall. They advanced after a 1-1 draw with Independiente del Valle at the Maracanã, having won the first leg 2-0 in Quito.

The club had previously reached this stage in 1981, 1982, 1984, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2025.

They returned to the last four in 2019 after 35 years, topping Group D with 10 points, level with LDU and Peñarol but ahead on goal difference.

In the round of 16 they edged past Emelec on penalties at the Maracanã. The quarter-finals brought a 2-0 win in the first leg against Internacional and a 1-1 draw in the return.

The semi-final finished 1-1 in Porto Alegre before Jorge Jesus's side routed Grêmio 5-0 at the Maracanã. That season staged the Libertadores' first single-match final, and Flamengo came from behind to defeat River Plate in Lima, sealing their second crown.
