Jorginho was sent off in Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores quarter-final second leg against Independiente del Valle, which would sideline him for the first leg of any semi-final. According to Coluna Do Fla, the dismissal has handed Flamengo a fresh selection concern.

At the Maracanã, the Ecuadorian side led 1-0 after Reasco scored in the 31st minute of the first half. Despite trailing on the night, Flamengo are currently set to reach the semi-finals after winning the first leg 2-0 in Quito.

Jorginho was booked 10 minutes into the second half for pulling Perelló’s shirt to stop a counter-attack. Nine minutes later he caught Alcívar in the face with his arm, received a second yellow and was dismissed by referee Andrés Matonte.

If Flamengo confirm qualification, they will meet Estudiantes in the last four. The Argentine club eliminated Corinthians 1-0 at Neo Química Arena on Wednesday 16, with the ties scheduled for the weeks of 14 and 21 October.

Flamengo are also without Evertton Araújo after a serious thigh injury.
