West Ham sent Flamengo fans into a frenzy on Tuesday night, posting a TikTok montage of Paquetá set to the song "Meu Ex-Amor", with a Portuguese caption reading "Amado Batista não errou quando disse". The clip carried a clear farewell tone.
According to Globo.com, negotiations moved forward on Tuesday, leaving the day more optimistic than it began. The final sticking point concerned the second instalment, due in 2026.
Flamengo will pay a total of 41.25 million euros, 255.9 million reais, by January 2028. The timing of money this year became sensitive for Flamengo's 2026 budget, while West Ham sought about 5 million euros more over the next 11 months, which would influence financial fair play calculations and fresh investment. Flamengo have begun drafting Paquetá's contract and could announce him this week.
Paquetá's stance was pivotal, as he pushed for immediate release, and he had not featured in recent matches. The midfielder came through Flamengo's academy, debuted in 2016, became a starter in 2017, then joined Milan in January 2019, moved to Lyon, and signed for West Ham in 2022.
If completed, it would be the biggest signing in Brazilian club history, surpassing Gerson's move to Cruzeiro. In this window Flamengo have added defender Vitão, formerly Inter, and goalkeeper Andrew, formerly Gil Vicente.
