Jorginho has been named in Italy’s preliminary squad for the UEFA Nations League, ahead of the FIFA window running from 21 September to 6 October 2026.

ESPN reports that the Flamengo midfielder is back on Roberto Mancini’s radar after strong form, highlighted by the club’s 2025 Brasileirão and Libertadores titles, and he could make the final list.

Italy have four Nations League fixtures in that period, two against Türkiye, plus meetings with Belgium and France.

Born in Brazil, Jorginho represents Italy through naturalisation after developing there. He won 57 caps between 2016 and 2024, a stretch in which Italy missed every World Cup, their last appearance coming in 2014.

His most recent outing for Italy came at Euro 2024, and he has not featured since. He was in the preliminary group for the final 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but Italy lost the play-off to Bosnia on 31 March, ending his hopes of reaching the tournament.

With Jorginho available, Flamengo face Independiente del Valle on Thursday 10 September at 21:30 Brasília time at Estádio Olímpico Atahualpa, the first leg of the Libertadores quarter-finals.
