Florentino Pérez visited Ceuta on Friday, days after a controversy over support T-shirts for the enclave’s residents. The Real Madrid president’s official trip drew close scrutiny.
According to L'Équipe, Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Elche on Tuesday was eclipsed when Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior and Ibrahima Konaté were seen half wearing the shirts.
Pérez arrived late in the morning in the autonomous Spanish enclave, north of Morocco, which has faced a significant migration and political crisis since late July.
He flew into Gibraltar, then travelled by helicopter into Ceuta. Around one hundred people and many Real Madrid supporters, including the emblematic “Dudu”, awaited him outside the Ayuntamiento de Ceuta.
Accompanied by club greats José Martinez Sanchez, known as Pirri, and Emilio Butragueno, he was received at noon in a reception room by Juan Jesus Vivas, Ceuta’s mayor-president. The AD Ceuta president also attended.
Speaking in French as he left, Pérez said he had come out of friendship for Pirri, who was born in Ceuta in 1945. It was a symbolic visit.
