Former Olympique Lyonnais player and recruiter, Florian Maurice, has recently opened up about his time at the club and his relationship with Juninho, who arrived in 2019 as Sporting Director. In an interview with Le Progrès, Maurice admitted that “the timing and conditions weren’t perhaps right for the president to offer me the position”, and that “things weren’t clear enough on the roles of each person” when Juninho arrived.
Maurice also reflected on his departure from the club, stating that he might have handled it differently, but he believed it was the right time to leave. He added that, despite the criticism from the president, he chose not to respond, and “the page is turned” now.
Although there were tensions between them during their time at Lyon, Maurice revealed that he and Juninho now speak normally, but the episode of their coexistence at the club is never discussed. As he put it, “we don’t talk about it, it’s taboo”.
Maurice left his mark on Lyon’s history and has moved on to a new challenge as Technical Director at Rennes. The interview suggests that he has come to terms with his departure from Lyon and the circumstances that led to it, and is focused on his new role.
