Florian Wirtz to FC Bayern? Rummenigge leaves the door open | OneFootball

Before his move to Liverpool FC, Bayern Munich made an intensive push to sign Florian Wirtz. However, the German national team player and his family ultimately decided to join the Reds. Because the star forward has not yet made the impact in England that was hoped for, speculation continues about a possible future move to Munich.

There have been conflicting reports on this recently. While some media outlets report that Bayern is not actively pursuing the player at the moment, sources in Liverpool suggest that the German record champions could at least inquire about Wirtz.

Now Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has commented on the speculation. The Bayern supervisory board member currently sees little need for another attempt, primarily for sporting and financial reasons.

Rummenigge sees no need (at this time) for Wirtz

“First of all, that’s not my job,” Rummenigge clarified in an interview with the Abendzeitung München. The executive board is primarily responsible for transfers.

The 71-year-old then pointed to the existing options in the Munich squad: “Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry play in that position, and there are other options like Ismael Saibari. There’s no need to buy a fourth player for the money that Wirtz would likely cost.”

Rummenigge is thus making it clear that he does not consider a costly transfer necessary under the current circumstances. Especially given the existing options, the sporting situation would likely have to change for Wirtz to become a more concrete prospect for Bayern again.

However, Rummenigge doesn’t want to completely rule out a future move. “Could something else be possible at some point anyway? I don’t know,” explained the former CEO.

Another decisive factor could be how the national team player’s situation at Liverpool FC develops. “The question is whether Wirtz is happy in Liverpool. I can’t judge that,” said Rummenigge.

Before his move to England, the Munich club had courted Wirtz intensively. Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß were also in contact with the attacking player’s parents at the time. Wirtz ultimately decided to take a different path.

As a result, there are currently no concrete signs of a new move by Bayern. However, Rummenigge does not want to completely close the door for the future.
