Following Hoeneß’s Criticism: Klopp Confidant Kosicke Speaks Out | OneFootball

Jürgen Klopp is the new head coach of the German national team and has also hired a few staff members at the DFB whom he already knows well. Among them is Marc Kosicke, who previously served as Klopp’s advisor and now works in a supporting role at the federation. 

That was something that didn’t go over too well with Uli Hoeneß. The Bayern chairman did emphasize, however, that he fully supports Klopp becoming the new national team coach. And Hoeneß didn’t question Klopp’s qualities as a coach either.

“What I don’t like about this whole situation is that his advisor, Marc Kosicke, was brought in as part of the deal. I’m not exactly sure what he’s supposed to be doing there. I think that’s a problem. The whole thing strikes me as a ‘friendly takeover,’” Hoeneß explained recently in an interview with Sky. 

Kosicke Rejects Hoeneß’s Criticism

Advisor Marc Kosicke has now clearly rejected Uli Hoeneß’s criticism of his role as advisor and assistant coach to the new national team coach, Jürgen Klopp. “This isn’t about a takeover,” Kosicke told the Frankfurter Rundschau in response to Hoeneß’s accusation of a “friendly takeover,” adding, “It’s simply about doing the right things.”

What are those things? “That, together with the people who work here and who care deeply about soccer, we get the best possible results for the national team and German soccer,” Kosicke explained.

Kosicke also clarified his own role. “Jürgen jokingly gave me the title AAF: Everything but soccer,” Kosicke explained. He sees his task as “creating the best possible conditions for Jürgen and his coaching staff.”

There may also be a meeting between Klopp and Hoeneß. The new national team coach has already held numerous discussions, including with Vincent Kompany, Niko Kovac, Sebastian Hoeneß, and several players.
