Noel Aseko on his move to Frankfurt, the advantages of playing street football in Berlin, his style of play and his time with Bayern Munich.

After completing his transfer to the Eagles on Saturday, new Eintracht signing Noel Aseko was officially unveiled at a press conference on Monday. The 20-year-old spoke about …

… why he joined Eintracht: “It was the total package. I had great talks with the club, had a great conversation with the coach and exchanged a couple of messages with Nnamdi Collins (smiles). All in all, that’s what convinced me to come here. The people in charge have a clear plan to help me continue my development at Eintracht. It’s important to get plenty of playing time too. I think I have a promising future here.”

… his time at Bayern Munich: “The last time I was there permanently was two years ago. I learned a lot in that time. I learned to push myself to the limit every day and keep developing off the field too – in terms of my recovery and sleeping pattern, for example.”

… his expectations: “First of all, I want to settle in well, get to know everyone, integrate myself and develop as best I can. I obviously have competition – everyone will be giving their all for the club, myself included. Let’s see what happens. I’ll be playing for the team and with the team.” 

… his style of play: “Having spoken to coach Adi Hütter on the phone, I know he sees me as a number six or number eight, a little like [French midfielder N’Golo] Kanté – high intensity, bold on the ball, strong in the tackle. I like having the ball and winning games. My pressing game is decent. There’s room for improvement in every department, of course.”

… playing street football: “I grew up in Berlin – not quite in Neukölln, but in that area. When you play street football, it’s all about winning. Whoever loses the ball wants to win it back immediately. Nobody wants to have to chase it. I learned a lot from that period.”

… what he gets up to off the pitch: “I stay in regular touch with friends, cousins and my family, either via FaceTime or in person. I was able to do the latter in Hanover, which is only an hour and a half from Berlin on the train.”

… his goals: “For me, it’s about every single player performing at their best and functioning as a team on and off the pitch.”
