“We never really got back in the game” | OneFootball

Board member for sport Markus Krösche, head coach Adi Hütter and Jonathan Burkardt reflect on Sunday’s defeat against Augsburg.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “The first half was really good. After conceding two quick goals [early in the second half], we never really got back in the game and were unable to replicate our first-half performance. Unfortunately, we ended up losing to a clinical Augsburg side. We’re not consistent enough at the moment.”

Head coach Adi Hütter: “In the first half we played exactly the type of football I expect us to. Football matches last for 90 minutes, though – not 45. We needed to put away our opportunities in the first half. It’s rare to concede two goals out of practically nothing. What we need to do is add consistency to our game. We didn’t find our way back into the game and were a long way from where I want us to be.” 

Jonathan Burkardt: “You emerge from half-time and suddenly you’re 2-1 down. The first two goals we conceded really hurt. Then we went 3-1 and 4-1 down, which quite simply shouldn’t have happened. We should have kept it at 2-1 and tried to get an equaliser in the final 15 minutes. As a young team, we’re still a work in progress. It’s been a big transition for us, but we shouldn’t be losing 4-1 at home.”
