Eintracht let lead slip in Augsburg defeat | OneFootball

The Eagles led 1-0 at the break thanks to Jonathan Burkardt’s sixth-minute strike, but the visitors turned the game on its head in the second half to triumph 4-1.

Brassier handed start

Adi Hütter made three changes to the side that started last weekend’s 3-3 draw at Union Berlin. Mario Götze, Ritsu Doan and recent signing Lilian Brassier were all brought into the team, replacing Farès Chaibi, Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab and Jeremiaha Maluze.Burkardt strikesThe Eagles put Augsburg under heavy pressure in the early stages and were rewarded for their endeavours with six minutes on the clock, when Jonathan Burkardt beat Hennes Behrens to Younes Ebnoutalib’s cross from the left and nodded home the opening goal from five metres out. 

Uzun opportunityEintracht went close to doubling their lead after 11 minutes. Ebnoutalib teed up Can Uzun inside the penalty area, but the youngster’s shot was kept out by a reflex save from Augsburg keeper Finn Dahmen. Hütter’s charges continued to dominate proceedings at Deutsche Bank Part and managed to carve out further opportunities to extend their advantage. Deserved half-time leadRaphael Onyedika let fly from the edge of the area just before the half-hour mark, but Dahmen pulled off another smart stop to keep the score at 1-0. Ebnoutalib went close twice before the interval – in the 39thminute and again six minutes later – but there were no further goals before the break.  

Eintracht stunned after restartAugsburg stunned the Eagles with two quick-fire goals early in the second half. Elias Baum deflected an Arijon Ibrahimovic header past Noah Atubolu less than a minute after the restart, and Robin Fellhauer fired the visitors ahead 60 seconds later after Atubolu had parried another Ibrahimovic effort into the Augsburg midfielder’s path.

The visitors extended their lead 20 minutes into the second half, Alexis Claude-Maurice collecting the ball from the edge of the box before curling an unstoppable shot into the right corner to make it 3-1. Rieder hits Augsburg’s fourthHütter freshened things up by bringing on Timothy Chandler, Amaimouni-Echghouyab and Chaibi for Baum, Götze and Uzun, but the changes failed to inspire an Eintracht fightback. Fabian Rieder completed the scoring in the closing stages, curling a free-kick into the net to make it 4-1 and end the Eagles’ hopes of salvaging anything from the contest.
