Marc McNulty has confirmed that his future with Reading remains unclear beyond the summer.

The striker has featured just twice for the Royals in over two years after being allowed to leave the club on loan on a number of occasions.

A loan spell with Hibernian in 2018-19 was followed up by spending 2019-20 on loan at both Sunderland and Hibernian again as he he spent the duration of the campaign away from the Madejski Stadium.

Despite featuring twice in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, the 28-year-old went on to join Dundee United on loan, scoring five goals including two goals in the Scottish Cup quarter final victory over Aberdeen at the weekend.

McNulty has another year remaining on his contract with Reading and so has an opportunity to push himself into contention with the Royals, but according to the Scottish striker he’s yet to hear from his parent club regarding his future.

Speaking to The Herald, McNulty said: “I have not spoken to anyone at Reading so far.

“I will just be waiting for a phone call or an email to let me know when pre-season is.  I will take it from there.”

The verdict

While Marc McNulty is enjoying his loan spell right now it certainly seems that his Reading career may be coming to an end.

The striker has barely featured for the Royals in recent seasons and that seems like a pretty clear indication of how Veljko Paunovic rates him compared to the club’s other options.

That said, the 28-year-old deserves a chance to prove himself during pre-season and I’m sure that’s what he’ll be looking to do.
