Former Barcelona forward Pau Victor has shed light on the mindset of teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, revealing that the young star remains unfazed by external criticism despite being constantly in the spotlight.
Yamal, who is hoping to receive medical clearance ahead of Barcelona’s weekend clash against Girona, continues to attract immense attention for his extraordinary performances.
The youngster’s rise has been meteoric, and as his influence grows, so does the scrutiny from various quarters attempting to unsettle him.
Speaking to Cadena SER’s Què T’hi Jugues programme, Pau Victor, who shared the dressing room with Yamal last season and now plays for Braga, explained how little the noise around him matters.
“The good thing about him is that he ignores criticism and focuses on being himself.
“If they tell him not to do something, he will probably do it anyway just to get more criticism.
“It doesn’t affect him. People will try to destabilise him because that’s one way they can stop him.

“He’s right not to listen to criticism because he’s performing well in soccer, so he can do whatever he wants outside of it,” Victor said during the interview.
The former Barcelona player went on to praise Yamal’s unique talent and drive, recalling moments from their training sessions together.
“Training with him was incredible. On days when he wanted to win a short game or some finishing drills, there was nothing you could do.
“You could only sit and watch. If he wanted to go one-on-one, he would do it and score. He’s different from the rest,” Victor said.
Lastly, he also went on to praise Hansi Flick, stating that despite limited opportunities, he is thankful.
“I am very grateful to Flick. He was always very attentive to me.
“He came to encourage me. When I left, he conveyed to me that he would be very attentive to me,” he concluded.
